I finally got smart, and started saving money on my bills. After COVID the whole economy changed, and it took me a long time to realize I needed to change as well. The cost of living is rising faster than ever, but jobs ain’t paying higher wages. I don’t even get a cost of living raise anymore, which used to be an annual event. To maintain my lifestyle I need to start cutting back in small ways to save money. Energy saving tips may seem small, but with minor adjustments you can save hundreds, maybe even thousands of dollars a year.
Let’s start with the HVAC system which probably uses up the lion’s share of your energy each month. Invest a few bucks, get yourself a nice smart thermostat, and let it help you lower your bill. When I said I “got smart” I mean I finally bought a smart thermostat, which is far better at regulating heat and energy than I could ever be. I am so dumb I never even thought about turning down the air conditioning when I left for work, I let it run full-blast all day.
The smart thermostat takes away my ability to forget, by doing it for me. I didn’t even have to program in when to turn off and on, the smart thermostat senses when the house is empty, and cools it less during those times. It also lets me know when the batteries are running low, when the air filter needs changed, and when the system senses a problem with the AC.
